Indian Head Massage

Indian head massage is a highly effective and deeply relaxing therapy.

It is an ancient therapeutic treatment that has been practiced in India for thousands of years and is part of the Hindu healthcare practice of Ayurveda. The treatment involves massage and acupressure to the upper back, shoulders, neck, face, head and scalp, whilst remaining seated in an upright position.

Why choose Indian head massage?

Indian head massage is a safe, simple, yet effective therapy that helps reduce stiffness and improves mobility and flexibility in the neck and shoulders. It stimulates blood circulation, lymphatic flow and aids in the elimination of toxins, so as well as providing relief from aches and pains, it can also promote hair growth and provide relief from a range of disorders.

It is particularly good for relaxing the whole body and reducing the effects of stress.  The head, neck and shoulders are very important energy centres within your body and if you are feeling stressed, tension tends to accumulate there. This tension can cause a stiff neck and shoulders, eyestrain and even hair loss.

The benefits

There are many benefits as Indian head massage affects many systems of the body

  • Increases blood flow to the head, neck and shoulders

  • Increases lymphatic flow which helps to flush out toxins and metabolic waste

  • Relaxes the muscle and nerve fibres

  • Helps relieve pain

  • Helps relieve anxiety and depression

  • Relaxes and soothes tense eye muscles

  • Improves circulation and nutrition to the skin and the hair

  • Improves sleep and relaxation

What can I expect?

Before your first appointment, you will be emailed a medical history form to complete to ensure treatment is suitable for you. We will review this, have a chat about your lifestyle and discuss any aches, pains or stresses that you may have.

The treatment is given seated and you will be fully supported throughout. Hair will be unclipped and hair bands removed as will any necklaces and earrings. You will be offered a towel to wrap around your upper body so that we can massage your neck, shoulders and back.

Next, we treat the head and scalp and then we finish the treatment with some acupressure and reiki to the face.

Afterward, you may need a little time to come around and you will be offered a glass of water.  You are likely to feel deeply relaxed and possibly serene, clear-headed, energised or maybe ready to fall asleep!

Indian head massage is kind to hair but it is not so kind to hair-dos! Please bear in mind that you will be having oils rubbed into your scalp so you may want to bring a hair band or hat.
